This Page Is Dedicated To The Memory Of Old Jesse Dog R.I.P. Jesse, November 22nd 1992 to June 9th 2008 |
Today, June 9th 2008, I left this world and embarked on my greatest adventure yet. I'm glad that Anne, Brad and Laurie had the courage to release me from my old worn out bones. I know that I'll eventually be reunited with them, and until then I've got a lot of exploring to do over here on the other side. |

This is me on my adventure at Prelude Lake with Brad and Rupert. I had a good time listenin' and lookin' for anything interesting. I found a couple of things worth investigating, but Brad (the party pooper) wouldn't let me follow my hunter/killer instinct and go after them. |

I don't know what these funny looking stone things are but they sure carry a lot of smells of those that have come this way before us. |

This is a pic of me (Jesse) in my most favorite spot in the world, takin' a nap on Brad and Anne's Queen Sized bed. Rupert has his Fortress of Solitude and I have my Queen Sized bed of Slumbertude. |

My Story |
|
I am presently 14 years young, Brad and I have been together since I was a pup of 8 weeks old. Brad and I met up in Sussex New Brunswick, Brad had just come back from his cross Canada motorcycle adventure with John (Lurch) Ackerson and was staying with his buddy Scott Ackerly. Brad found me at a pet store in the Sussex Mall and was more than happy to pay the $75 they were asking so he could bring me home. Luckily for Brad, I house trained very quickly (it only took me two weeks to figure it out). Brad had a job working in the Woods doing Harvest Block Layout and took me to work with him (except in hunting season for some reason). I really enjoyed going to work with Brad, so much so that even if we had to drive for an hour to get to the Harvest Block he was laying out, that I wouldn't let myself fall asleep, sleeping was for on the way home after I had run through the forests all day long with Brad. Those were the days alright, I was in the best shape of my life, I had big leg muscles, hearing like a bat, eyes like an eagle and could run like the wind. You wouldn't know it to look at me now, but back in those days everyone who saw me used to tell Brad how handsome I was. Brad and I spent a few years in Sussex and then moved up to Robinsonville in Northern New Brunswick where Brad got a job cutting Boundary lines for the Department of Natural Resources. Unfortunately, there was no room for me in the truck because Brad had to drive two other workers to the location they were cutting the lines. I wasn't very happy about this, but I got over it because Brad would take me for truck rides, swimming and for runs in the woods whenever he got the chance. After a few years in Robinsonville, Brad and I moved to Fredericton New Brunswick where Brad grew up. Brad used to take me for swims in the Saint John River along the Green in downtown Fredericton, I used to look forward to this every day in the summer.Brad eventually got a job working in a Wood Yard as a Scale House operator for Clarence Martin, this is where we met Rex, Laurie and Anne. Brad and I eventually moved to Anne's place at French Lake in New Brunswick. I can get along with just about any other dog, so Rex and I were buddies pretty much from day one. The only time Rex would get upset is when another dog tried to interfere with him when he was fetching his stick or ball. I've never seen the point of this whole fetch thing, so I was perfectly fine with letting Rex knock himself out with it. Brad and Anne got married (I was the ring bearer for them by the way), then we bought a house in Hoyt New Brunswick and moved in. I liked Hoyt because it was in a rural area, and I've never been much of a city dog anyways. We spent many happy years together in Hoyt, until poor old Rex's arthritis got so bad that he wasn't enjoying life anymore, he couldn't go for walks, fetch his stick or ball (which is what he lived for), so Anne and Brad decided to do him the biggest favor a friend can do for a dog when he's in constant pain and not having any quality of life. Although I'm pretty sure it was one of the hardest things they've ever had to do, they had him euthanized. I hope that when my time comes, they show the same courage and do the same favor for me. Hopefully that will still be a few years away. I'm still in pretty darn good shape for my age. The only things that seem to be just about worn out are my eyes and ears, other than that my body seems to be in good shape, although my legs aren't quite as strong as they used to be I don't seem to have much (if any) arthritis and I've still got my boyish figure, I guess I owe that to many years of being a picky eater. Ok, back to My Story, where was I? Oh yeah, that's right, I was talking about when we lived in Hoyt. After we had Rex put down I was pretty depressed, although I knew it was the best thing we could have done for him, I missed the old fella, after all, we'd been together for quite a few years. Was I ever surprised when Brad and Anne came home with a new funny looking dog with no tail, and more dew claws than I'd ever seen on a single dog in my life! His name was Rupert, and at first I didn't know what to make of him, what with him tearing up the house and furniture everytime they left us home by ourselves. Luckily for Rupert, he eventually grew out of his seperation anxiety and stopped destroying the house everytime the family left us alone. After Rupert joined the family, Brad Got a Job as a Tester/Analyzer in Yellowknife Northwest Territories. Brad moved up by himself first then the rest of us flew up a couple of months later. It was the first time I ever flew anywhere, and I'm not entirely sure I enjoyed the experience. However, being the resilient dog that I am I endured it so I could be reunited with my old pal Brad. I suppose it could have been worse and I might have had to fly up by myself and spend a night in a strange Kennel in Edmonton before arrviving the next day in Yellowknife, like goofy young Rupert did. When we first got to Yellowknife, Rupert and I had to spend a couple of weeks at the Borealis Kennels because Brad and Anne hadn't found a house to live in yet. That was a pretty good experience though, because the nice people there went out of their way to make sure we were walked every day and treated very well. All in all, I've had a pretty darn good life for a dog and am happy to have had friends like Brad, Anne, Laurie, Rex and Rupert in it. |

Being Jesse |

I’m a bit of a lone wolf. I mean I like being fed a couple of times a day and being given lots of treats (especially anything sweet) and having a queen-sized bed to sleep on, but in my heart I would like to live free in the wilds. I’m not one to be petted much and forget about playing fetch. I leave all of that for Rupert as it makes him so happy (he’s a needy kind of dog). As I was saying about liking sweets, my favourite thing is cinnamon loaf. I’ve been known to steal it off the table. I’m basically a meat eater but I will eat a few vegetables like green peppers and carrots. I’m also a big fan of dog cookies. I like them so much that I will rip open the box. Actually it’s more about ripping open the box – I don’t destroy too many things, but I really like to rip into that box and tear it to shreds!! I like to help my family on Christmas morning when they are opening their presents - I get right in there ripping off all that paper. (okay, I guess there are a few things I like to destroy, but nothing that I shouldn’t). In my younger days I was a pretty active guy, spending hours running out in the woods, but now I do most of my running in my dreams while I sleep away the day on my bed. |
