Rug 3

I like weaving rag rugs using different materials from store bought fabric to cutting up old t-shirts. These first two rugs were woven on the same warp but I used different material for the weft. For this first rug I used knit materials like t-shirts, sweatsuit fleece and polar fleece. The rug turned out very thick and warm.

Rug 7

For this rug I used cotton fabrics like old sheets, cotton shirts and broadcloth.

Here are the two rugs beside each other, where you can see the difference in the wefts used.

Double 1

This past May I taught a double-binding placemat weaving workshop at the Yellowknife Guild of Arts and Crafts. It's fun making these placemats, as they work up pretty quickly because the weft is strips of fabric and by using two contrasting fabrics the placemats are reversible.

Guild sale

The Guild has two sales a year, in December and April, plus the Fireweed Studio is open during the summer.

I seem to weave a lot with material. Here are some vests woven with fabric.

Guild raffle

Last year the guild had a raffle to raise money for our new guild building. The first prize was a 6 place dish set that the potters made and I made the placemats.

Anne's Weaving News

February 2nd, 2008

I learned to weave in 1982 while taking the Design Arts - Weaving and Textiles III program at Georgian College, Barrie, Ontario. I'm planning on working on the Guild of Canadian Weavers certifications to eventually become a 'Master Weaver' - which will take many, many years.

I'm currently teaching another weaving class at the craft guild. It's nice to be able to have the students learn on floor looms.

Regards,

Anne
