Longest Day Of The Year

This pic was taken on the longest day of the year 2007 (June 21st) at midnight, looking West (more or less) from in front of our place on Williams Ave. There's definitely enough light to read a Newspaper.

August 23rd, 2009

Wow ... I can't believe that it's been over a year since I've updated our website (tsk, tsk, tsk on me for being lazy).

Well, a lot has happened in our lives since then. I got a new job in Hay River, NT ... we moved to Hay River last January ... Anne got a job here ... we got a new puppy named Taz (short for Tasmanian Devil, which she both resembles physically and in temperament) ... Laurie graduated from high school, and last but not least ... we just bought a house here that we take possesion of on September 4th.

I'm also going to try to update my "Brad's World" page, as well as Anne's. I'll be adding a page for Taz too.

It is with a very heavy heart that I post this update. Old Jesse dog is no longer with us ...... we finally had to do him the ultimate favor and have him euthanized. He reached the end of his road on this planet and has embarked on his greatest adventure on the other side. He will be sorely missed by his whole family

R.I.P. Old Jesse Dog, November 22nd, 1992 to June 9th, 2008.

You truly were this man's best friend

Well, we're about 1/2 way through Winter, it's currently -37 degrees Celsius and there's "ice fog" in the air. It's been like this for about a week and they're forecasting more of it next week! When it's this cold it's hard to do anything outside. It's even a chore to take the dogs for a walk (just ask Anne!). Jesse seems to be pretty much oblivious to it, but Rupert starts lifting his paws and hobbling along after about 5 minutes or 75 ft, whichever occurs first. The power went out the other night for about an hour, which means the timer we have the truck plugged into got reset/turned off and didn't kick in to warm up the oil and battery in the truck. Anne went out to try to start it and it would barely turn over .... and this is practically a new truck (it's a 2005 model), with only 20,000 km's on it and running 100% synthetic motor oil!!

Needless to say, we can't wait for Summer. There really is no "Spring" here, it pretty much goes straight from Winter to Summer and Summer to Winter. I've ordered a set of Supermoto street wheels for my motorbike and am looking forward to doing a few road trips this Summer. Just in case there are a few of you who don't know, or haven't heard the latest .... we're definitely not moving to Whitehorse in the near future. The company I work for reneged on the agreement to pay to move us, so we've decided to stay here for now and I'm looking into other possible career opportunities outside of my current employer. Anne's teaching another Weaving class at the Guild and is still working for the same company she started with when we first moved here. Laurie is in grade 11 this year and is still a Lifeguard at the indoor public pool. Rupert now weighs in at a whopping 130+ lbs, is healthy and still as big a goof as he ever was! Jesse is still hanging in there at 15 years old, he's pretty much as blind as a bat and only hears you when he wants to. Although between his nose and some kind of sonar he seems to use, he still gets around well enough.

Make sure you check out Anne's Knitting and Weaving pages, Anne > Weaving and Anne > Knitting. I've finally gotten around to updating those pages. Sorry it took me so long!!

I've updated the "Brad's World" page (on the menu, "Brad" > "Brad's World") with a pic of me with my new shiny head look as well as a new "Brad's News" section. I've also added a couple of new pics of Jesse and Rupert on their pages (on the menu, "Our Dogs" > "Rupert" or "Jesse") I'm starting my 2nd week of my 3 week vacation and enjoying every minute of it, although the weather doesn't seem to be cooperating (it's snowed, it's barely been above freezing and now it's raining today), which doesn't make for good motorcycling conditions.

Laurie and I were going to go on a 3 day camping excursion out at Vee Lake on my motorbike, but unless the weather clears up we might have to postpone it until later this summer. Anne's doing well, enjoying her job and is getting more involved with The Yellowknife Guild of Arts and Crafts. She's been elected to the "Board", she just doesn't know to which position yet, I guess they have another meeting where they decide who serves in what capacity. Laurie is doing well in school and is getting lots of hours at her new part-time job as a lifeguard at the public pool here in town. Jesse and Rupert are doing well also, Rupert is fatter than ever (he now weighs around 120lbs). Jesse is still keeping a healthy weight for a dog of his age and frame and is still enjoying life.

We've updated the "Yellowknife" page (On the menu, "Been" > "Yellowknife") with some pictures from this year's Caribou Carnival. The Caribou Carnival took place last weekend here in Yellowknife, it's an annual thing. It's basically Yellowknife's Winter Carnival, which is a pretty big deal here because winters are soooo long. They have snowmobile races, dog sled races and various other contests. There were also fireworks that I must say, were quite impressive for a place the size of Yellowknife. They went on for at least ten minutes. We watched them from our Tower, which is fairly high up and had a good view.

We're pretty much settled in at the new place (praise be to the almighty Flying Spaghetti Monster). If we ever move again during our time in Yellowknife, it'll be too soon. Three times in a year and a half is plenty, thank you very much. There's actually quite a bit more floor space here than there was at either of the previous places. Laurie's happy (closer to stores and friends = happy teenager) The dogs seem happy (they're getting more walks now, which = happy dogs). I got offered and accepted new position at Northwestel in N.O.C.C. (Network Operations Control Center (not answering the phone in Test/Repair = happy Brad). Unfortunately, they're going to keep me in Test/Repair for at least another month or two because they're so short staffed (they only have five people in a department that fully staffed should have eleven). But at least there's light at the end of the tunnel!

The place we're currently renting got sold back at the end of November, our lease agreement stipulated that in the event that the house got sold, we were to be given 3 months notice before we had to be out. The end of February marks the end of that 3 months. We've been looking for a place but nobody wants to rent to you when you won't take occupancy for 3 months, plus the fact that nothing's been available in November, December, January. We were starting to get a little worried that we might not find anything for the end of February, or that we'd end up in a trailer on a postage stamp lot ...... or worse yet, end up in another place that's for sale. We also didn't want to get tied down with another mortgage when we don't plan on staying here much longer than five years (when Laurie graduates High School).

Well, our search came to an end on Tuesday of this week (January 30th), we found a 3 bedroom Townhouse/Duplex/Housing Co-op thingy. It has three good sized bedrooms, two living rooms, two full baths, a deck and they allow dogs. The only complication is that we had to sign the lease right away and still have to pay a half month's rent where we are. We're going to be packing our brains out for the next two weeks in order to get out of the place we're in by February 15th.

We'll keep you posted! Oh yeah, I almost forgot! I sold the 4000lb Lawn Ornament to one of the Field Tech's at work and our Desktop Computer died Christmas day, (I've since built another one that's Bigger and Better though).
